Egg Freezing – Preserving the Chance of Motherhood

Nowadays, egg freezing – a modern medical solution that helps women preserve their fertility – is increasingly becoming a popular option among women worldwide.

The challenge of balancing career and motherhood
Today, women have more opportunities than ever to develop their careers, pursue passions, and assert their identities. However, this comes with the invisible pressure of the “biological clock,” posing a major challenge in balancing career ambitions and the natural role of motherhood.
In fact, the trend of marrying and having children later in life is becoming increasingly common, especially in major cities. According to the General Department of Population (Ministry of Health), the average age of first marriage in Vietnam has risen from 24.1 years (in 1999) to 27.2 years (in 2024).
Despite the modern world’s support for women to take control of many aspects of life, biological limitations remain unchangeable. At a certain age, fertility begins to decline, making natural conception more difficult and increasing the risks of serious health issues for both mother and baby.
A solution that empowers women to take charge of their future
Egg freezing represents a significant medical advancement, allowing women to “pause the biological clock” by preserving their healthiest eggs during their “golden reproductive years” for future use.
This solution is especially beneficial for women who are unable to have children during their optimal reproductive years due to health reasons, a desire to focus on their careers, or other personal circumstances—while still preserving their ability to become mothers.
Experts recommend that the best time for egg freezing is before the age of 37, ideally between 30–35 years old, when egg quality and quantity are at their peak.
When a woman is ready to have children, the frozen eggs can be thawed for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer into the uterus, offering a real chance of motherhood even after natural fertility has declined.
With modern medical technology, eggs can be preserved for up to 20 years, with a post-thaw survival rate of 90%. Studies also confirm there is no difference in the health or risk of birth defects between children born through assisted reproduction and those conceived naturally.
Dr. Huynh Thi Thu Thao – MSc. Specialist Level II Doctor, Director of the Reproductive Support Centre at Hanh Phuc International Hospital – shared:
“Every woman has her own life plan, and I fully understand the desire to prioritize career development or financial stability before starting a family. However, biologically, the ideal age for natural conception remains between 25–30 years, when eggs are of the highest quality and fertility is at its peak. Egg freezing can be seen as a form of insurance against age-related fertility decline, but it should not be misunderstood as a way to indefinitely postpone having children. If possible, I still encourage women to consider having children naturally during this golden window, as it is the optimal way to ensure a healthy and safe pregnancy.”
